Chlorine Dioxide to Clean Small RO Systems

Small water systems often use reverse osmosis to purify water to acceptable standards. The source water for such systems is sometimes contaminated with algae and other biological growth. Chlorine dioxide, supplied in the form of Solution 3000, can be used to prevent biofouling of the membranes.
A small water system in the Southwest draws water from a pond and uses a reverse osmosis system to clean the water for non-potable uses on a small ranch. Initial trials indicate that chlorine dioxide allows the system to maintain flow and pressure drop performance without other cleaning for weeks between treatments.
